San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance benefits from the involvement of volunteers with a wide range of backgrounds at the Zoo, Safari Park, and various conservation locations. Occasionally, the Conservation Science team recruits new volunteers with specialized skills and expertise to join in their conservation efforts. While the need will vary during the year and is based on the team’s needs and our current volunteers, these are the following areas we occasionally are looking for:
- Trail camera data processing and classification
- Bioacoustic recording and analysis
- Radiotelemetry
- Conservation field work
- Bird surveys
- Vegetation surveys
- Endocrine sample preparation
- Animal welfare observations and behavioral scoring
- Glass wash room
- Administrative and clerical support
- Data entry
- Small mammal husbandry support
- Conservation facilities cleanup
- Seed cleaning and processing
- Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
- DNA extraction
- Computer coding
- Software development
