Michael Stevens
Michael Stevens serves San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance as a Senior Research Associate in Recovery Ecology. He is working on the Burrowing Owl Project. In this role, his current responsibilities are building nest boxes, constructing artificial burrows, checking camera traps, and collecting field data. In 2017, Michael and the burrowing owl team will be installing over 100 artificial burrows in parts of Imperial, San Bernardino, Riverside, and San Diego County. Michael will also be assisting with GPS tracking and translocations of burrowing owls in 2017. Michael previously worked for Plant Conservation where he worked on a habitat restoration project for the Coastal Cactus Wren around Lake Hodges.
Michael earned his bachelor’s degree in Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology from the University of California, Davis. He has a passion to restore, maintain, and preserve native habitats around the world. He has worked in several different habitat types throughout California. On his days off, you can find Michael hiking, birding, and taking part in other outdoor activities where he can enjoy nature and wildlife.
